02. "May you rise again..."
Everything burns, in the end.
The death of a father disilissuioned with the fall of his once-proud nation. A scared little girl fleeing from the burning ruins of her old life. an immigrant, a stranger, a stowaway. Too many friends, loves, family members buried with her own two hands, a spade held in shaking, uncertain hands.
here began myril's journey to understand death, and her journey to bring peace to the departed and grieving. she is a victim of both the oppression of garlemald's violent imperialism and the cruel certainty of death both - and she has chosen to do what she can to alleviate both.
03. "May you take flight in your next life..."
Myril Soleil is a woman that surrounds herself with death - though she's far from a pessimist. Her primary method of employement is her job as a funeral director at a small but reliable funeral parlor known as the Ferrymen, who operate primarily out of Ul'dah. Their services include hospice care, burials, funerary rites, and a variety of services and support groups to assist those grieving their dead. They are renowned and more generally known for this service rather than their more clandestine purpose...The reality is that while their funeral parlor business is legitimate, many of those employed by the Ferrymen are also practiced in a style of combat and operation descended from the Garlean Reaper arts, with their founder having been a Garlean turncoat. Ferrymen are often dispatched as mercenaries to assist in various covert acts, though they won't take any job from any buyer.Myril is special among her colleagues, bearing an extremely strong affinity for the dead - theorized by some of her peers to be a form of the Echo, her ability to communicate with the dead and act as a medium made her a prodigal addition, allowing her to further help with the Ferrymen's dealings with the dead. While she helps to handle funerals and the reaper business, her unique role is as an unofficial 'psychopomp,' communicating with the lingering dead to help bring them solace and move on peacefully. The dead have clinged to Myril since her youth, shrouded in tragedy as it was living under Garlean rule before Doma's liberation and her fleeing to Eorzea, and over time she became somewhat of a spiritual focusing point. Spirits of the dead may sometimes cling to her for guidance, knowingly or unknowingly, and she does what she can to help them move on and fulfill their wishes. Some are with her for mere moments, some are with her for years - she carries their dreams as her own.Her special interest is in funerary rites - it is something she's deeply passionate about. She regards the dead with love, reverence and respect, even if they were enemies of hers in life. She strives to ensure proper rites are taken when someone falls, and should a spirit cling to her, she does all in her power to help them.In spite of her gloomy field of work and her appearence - always dressed for a funeral - Myril views her field and profession with a kind of optimism. That death is not the end, that when she performs her services, she sends someone off to a better life, helping them achieve peace in their final moments. Though perhaps this is her way of coping with a life full of tragedy and sorrow - this belief thSt death is not the end, that the dead are off to better places, is all that allows her to cope with what she's seen...

04. "And find the happiness denied to you in this one."

In spite of her outwardly grim job, Myril seems passionate and genuinely happy with her work. You can often find her working away in a notebook she carries. She also carries a small gold coin as a badge, though not gil - seemingly the insignia of the organization she represents. Her connection to a voidsent is something she hides, but she is still decently well armed and prepared for her travels, carrying a supply bag with her.
I.
Tools of the trade.
II.
Some scars never fade.
Myril bears many, many scars - the massive burn across her face is dark, bold, and cannot be hidden. Lower on her body, she is covered in wounds that range from slashes to gunshot wounds that have healed over time, giving her the appearance of a fierce warrior - or a survivor, at the very least. They tell a story - one she may not tell in its entire truth quite yet...
Though it may not be apparent at first, to a careful eye, Myril doesn't quite fall into line with Eorzean culture - very rarely does she invoke the name of the Twelve on her own, and she often seems like she yearns for different food. Her taste in drink, food, some aspects of her her spirituality, and her accent betray that she is from across the sea... perhaps you recognize a countryman from Doma, or perhaps you recognize that she is not a fellow Eorzean... or perhaps it's simply comforting to meet another immigrant here.
III.
Stranger from the east.
IV.
Five o'clock somewhere!
Myril is a drinker, and a social drinker, at that! If you've encountered her in a bar, tavern, or anywhere else, you no doubt saw her chatting away with fellow bargoers and patrons - though she's not quite loud and rambunctious, she's social, open to conversation, and seemingly longing for the company as soon as whoever her current chatting partner is walks away...
Lost? New here? Looking for directions? Desperate for company on any journey, be it a trek from one nation to another, or a walk through unsafe part of town at night? Myril has the confidence of one who's been around time and time again - and she's more than happy to be your guide, your bodyguard, your fake girlfriend, or whatever else you may need someone as strong as her for.
V.
Real men don't need maps.
VI.
Have you seen this woman before...?
Myril is a traveling psychopomp and fighter both - helping those in need is her dayjob and night job! You may have seen her visiting the homes that have recently lost someone, or you may have also coincidentally seen her offering her services as an adventurer. She travels quite a lot around Eorzea as is the nature of her work.

From the mouth of the author - Myril carries with her a lot of heavy themes - of trauma and recovery, of hurting and healing. Learning to let herself fall, and to let others catch her. Letting others in. Unwillingness to let go or to move on, and learning the courage to take that first step. The fear of change, and the horrifying prospect of freedom. Ultimately, she is a victim of abuse and trauma, suffering from abandonment issues but not knowing how to let others in all the same. She craves intimacy. She craves love. She doesn't want to be alone. She just doesn't know how to be anything else yet.
06. What about me?
Prepare to be whelmed.
Afternoon, stranger! My name is Ruby! I'm a transgender woman who's semi-recently (and by that I mean a few years now) gotten into XIV, and have only just now gained the courage to start roleplaying again after a short stint with it in WoW. I play this game, as well as Warframe, Destiny, and a backlog of singleplayer games so long it'd make you hurl. I struggle a lot in my everyday life, and XIV is one of the places I come to feel and be safe. Respect that, respect me, and I'm sure we'll get along just fine!
