02. "May you rise again..."
Everything burns, in the end.
The death of a father disilissuioned with the fall of his once-proud nation. A scared little girl fleeing from the burning ruins of her old life. an immigrant, a stranger, a stowaway. Too many friends, loves, family members buried with her own two hands, a spade held in shaking, uncertain hands.
here began myril's journey to understand death, and her journey to bring peace to the departed and grieving. she is a victim of both the oppression of garlemald's violent imperialism and the cruel certainty of death both - and she has chosen to do what she can to alleviate both.
03. "May you take flight in your next life..."
Myril Soleil is a woman that surrounds herself with death - though she's far from a pessimist. Her primary method of employement is her job as a funeral director at a small but reliable funeral parlor known as the Ferrymen, who operate primarily out of Ul'dah. Their services include hospice care, burials, funerary rites, and a variety of services and support groups to assist those grieving their dead. They are renowned and more generally known for this service rather than their more clandestine purpose...The reality is that while their funeral parlor business is legitimate, many of those employed by the Ferrymen are also practiced in a style of combat and operation descended from the Garlean Reaper arts, with their founder having been a Garlean turncoat. Ferrymen are often dispatched as mercenaries to assist in various covert acts, though they won't take any job from any buyer.Myril is special among her colleagues, bearing an extremely strong affinity for the dead - theorized by some of her peers to be a form of the Echo, her ability to communicate with the dead and act as a medium made her a prodigal addition, allowing her to further help with the Ferrymen's dealings with the dead. While she helps to handle funerals and the reaper business, her unique role is as an unofficial 'psychopomp,' communicating with the lingering dead to help bring them solace and move on peacefully. The dead have clinged to Myril since her youth, shrouded in tragedy as it was living under Garlean rule before Doma's liberation and her fleeing to Eorzea, and over time she became somewhat of a spiritual focusing point. Spirits of the dead may sometimes cling to her for guidance, knowingly or unknowingly, and she does what she can to help them move on and fulfill their wishes. Some are with her for mere moments, some are with her for years - she carries their dreams as her own.Her special interest is in funerary rites - it is something she's deeply passionate about. She regards the dead with love, reverence and respect, even if they were enemies of hers in life. She strives to ensure proper rites are taken when someone falls, and should a spirit cling to her, she does all in her power to help them.In spite of her gloomy field of work and her appearence - always dressed for a funeral - Myril views her field and profession with a kind of optimism. That death is not the end, that when she performs her services, she sends someone off to a better life, helping them achieve peace in their final moments. Though perhaps this is her way of coping with a life full of tragedy and sorrow - this belief thSt death is not the end, that the dead are off to better places, is all that allows her to cope with what she's seen...
